New directory of the National Hurricane Center fishes at Bud N' Mary's!

ISLAMORADA--Just before it was released, new National Hurricane Center Director Bill Read poses with one of two tarpon he caught and released May 27, 2008, off Islamorada in the Florida Keys. Taking a brief respite from speaking duties at hurricane preparedness events in the Keys, Read fished with Vic Gaspeny from Bud N' Mary's Fishing Marina. The tarpon were estimated to weigh 80 and 100 pounds respectively. It was the Read’s first-ever tarpon catch-and-release. Photo by Andy Newman/Florida Keys News Bureau

Hunt for the crownfish!

Bud N' Mary's helped some film producers with a little video they created a few months back.  A pengiun helps a beauty queen catch her 'crownfish.'  This was a production for Samsung.  We're the tackle shop the pengiun goes into... look familiar??

Bud N' Mary's a favorite of USA's Character Roadtrip?!

I noticed this a while back when searching randomly through the internet.  Apparently Evan from USA Networks "Character Road Trip" says his favorite 'hidden gem' of America is Bud N' Mary's!  You've probably seen these guys if you watched USA network last year, they drive around the U.S. and find, you guessed it, crazy characters to feature on USA.  Pretty interesting, I'm sure they could find some characters here at Bud N' Mary's!  Unfortunately I'm not sure if they are still featured on USA, but I vote to bring 'em back!

Return Of The Swordfish Article

http://www.saltwatersportsman.com/article.jsp?ID=21011739

This article, written by our friend John Brownlee, appeared in Saltwater Sportsman in 2007.  Great article featuring some captains from Bud N' Mary's, and of course owner/operator Capt. Richard Stanczyk.

As seen on PBS...

Bud N' Mary's helped do a film shoot about 5 years ago documenting some of the scientific research of E.O. Wilson and his theories on evolution. At some time in the 60s he went out to an isolated mangrove island in the Florida Keys. He created an inventory of all the species of insects and such on the island, then literally tented the island and exterminated it with poison gas. He wanted to see which species of insects would come back first, in what numbers, and so on. Anyways, what we did was help recreate this experiment for a documentary that just aired the other night on PBS (finally). You can check the clip out here and see myself (Ricky Stanczyk)(driving a boat). You can also see some of Bud N’ Mary’s, and the coherts I work with (the barn dogs! Sparrow, Sailboat Mike, and Bucky) Fast forward about half way through the video to see the part where they are driving up the bridges in The Keys and our part is soon after that!
