8/30/12 August fishing in Islamorada

Well Hurricane Isaac came and went - no major damage here in the Florida Keys.  Winds came up to a steady 40-45 MPH with gusts a bit stronger.  Blew some leaves and lawn furniture around but that was about it.  Well if your wondering how fishing after a hurricane is we've got some good islamorada fishing reports today. Fishing the Florida Keys in August can be very hit or miss with the very hot weather we usually get, but the good thing with this storm is it cooled the water down nicely.  It usually take a few days for the mud and sediment to settle in the bay, but now that it's happened things turned on today.  Capt. Mike Bassett reported great action on a half day, catching a whopping 92 redfish, a small tarpon, jacks, and mangrove snappers.  He had Richard and Vivian Noritake down from Miami with their son Umi.  Capt. Vinnie Biondoletti had good luck as well in the backcountry.  They caught a couple big lemon sharks backcountry fishing flamingo, and lots of keeper trout and mangrove snappers further out west on the edge of the gulf of mexico.  Great islamorada fishing in august on 8/30/12.  The next couple months officially starts our 'off season' so there are plenty of guides available.  Try to get out on the water early to avoid the heat of the day, and remember to bring plenty of h20 as it gets down right warm out there!

8/10/12 Backcountry fishing.. bonefish and action in the gulf

Capt. Vinnie Biondoletti reported this morning.. Had Jack ,Roman and chad out on a half day of fishing for tarpon and bone fish. After two hours of tarpon fishing in Islamorada with no luck we switched gears and went for bones. We saw several groups of fish and managed to catch a nice 7 pounder to end our day. Bone fishing remains steady for the patient fisherman.  Nice Islamorada bonefish!

Capt. Jim Willcox reported some good fishing in the florida keys backcountry with lots of trout and redfish action.  They also caught 2 nice cobias, some black tip sharks, and a couple of 'sea monsters' by mistake!  Capt. Rick Stanczyk also ventured out further into the gulf, reporting good trout/snapper/etc.. action early with a mix of mackerels too.  Once the tide started falling they had a few shots at permit, catching 2 and losing 2 to sharks, as well as 3 cobia, and several goliath groupers.

Rick Stanczyk reported good fishing on the edge of the gulf today, with a mix of trout, snapper, ladyfish, spanish mackerel, and a couple pompano!  We then chunked them up in some hold and caught a couple big goliaths, 2 big sawfish, a lemon and black tip shark, and got rocked up by some other goliaths, fun day of rod bending!

8/2/12 August Backcountry and offshore fishing report islamorada

Islamorada fishing in August has been great thus far!  Kalex had some great dolphin fishing today with a rackfull of fish up to 35 lbs.  Many of the mahi have been in a little closer the last few days, though every day is different.  Capt. Vinnie Biondoletti had some fun fishign with the family. Trish Biondoletti caught two nice islamorada bonefish this morning. We fished early and caught the last of the incoming tide. We only had a handful of shots and caught three fish. Yesterday brought the same number of casts and hook ups but lost all those fish to lines breaking. A change of line and we were back in business. None fishing remains steady and should remain that way for awhile. Good red fishing this afternoon. Lots of fish up on the flats in big schools. Ryan Biondoletti and Nicole Starr managed to catch a half dozen fish in a couple hours. Capt. Rick Stanczyk fished a morning half the other day and an evening tonight and had reported good fishing.  Lots of trout, mangrove snappers, and ladyfish in the gulf, and a big 175 lb goliath grouper.  This evening they tried the local muds and not much going on, so the caught snappers around the islands.  They tarpon fishing for an hour before dark and caught a nice 80 lb fish.  Lots of activity around sunset around the local channels.  Tarpon fishing in August can be a good bet if you hit it right!

7/28/12 Fishing the gulf of mexico

Capt. Rick Stanczyk had Bob Davidson and crew out for a day of fishing the gulf of mexico on 7/28/12.  We started off some of the banks that line the edge of everglades national park and the gulf.  The bite was hot with a mix of big ladyfish, sea trout, mangrove snappers, and jack crevelle.  We loaded up on fish for dinner, as well as more for bait for larger specimen.  We then headed to try to find some goliaths we had some action with the prior day, however another boat was fishing it, so we headed back west into the open gulf.  We had one of wrecks to our selves and the fish were there!  We had the last of the incoming tide.  Big schools of permit in every direction, great permit fishing in islamorada.  We caught about 8 total on shrimp and even bare jigs!  We tried pitching the one crab we had to some of the larger ones, though they did not appear interested.  After the tide started to fall we anchored up, and chunked up some ladyfish and caught 6 big goliath groupers up to 200 lbs!  Bob also got a nice 75 lb bull shark.  We also managed one cobia to the boat, and had one other small 4 pack follow a goliath up and disappear.  Great action and love to see it this time of year!

Capt. Bill Bassett also fished in the backcountry today and reported good action.  They caught plenty of trout and ladyfish in the bays.  They found lots of tarpon around some islands and had a couple in the air!  They also poled around a bit later and caught several redfish, after that they headed in a little earlier to beat the heat!
