10/11/11 Everglades tarpon action and more!

Capt. Rick Stanczyk fished today with his girlfriend Elizabeth and friend Ron Modra for some islamorada fishing october.  We got a bit of a late start and took time to run around and find some bait.  Could not find pilchards to the north, but did find a few big balls of mullet.  Threw the net on them a few times and got tons of good size small mullet.  Ran in the everglades with those and some shrimp.  Caught a nice snook on first finger mullet out, tried a few other areas around the island but no more luck.  Caught plenty of snappers and jacks though on shrimps.  Went to a tarpon spot and put out some more mullets on the bottom.  Ron caught a nice 80 lb tarpon about 15 minutes later!  Tide quit on us then and it was high noon.  We ran further out to check things out, stopped at a spot.  Very slick calm and beautiful - tarpon everywhere!  Had a couple chase mullets on top, but missed them.  Ron hooked a mystery fish that we could not get off the bottom on a light rod, maybe a juvenile goliath??  Anyways ran into some creek areas after, lots of tarpon in there too and some big schools of mullet they were busting, had another zip us and suck the bait off, and after that decided to call it a day!  I imagine if the mullet stay around, the tarpon will too before it gets cold, so come on down!

10/8/11 Some nasty weather, but great everglades fishing action!

Capt. Rick Stanczyk and Capt. Mike Bassett fished some of Rick's regulars down from NJ, Lee & Rob & Company for a florida keys charter.  The radar looked like lots of rain around so we waited to leave and made it over to the flamingo everglades area with no problem, decided to stick to just half a day due to weather concerns.  Stopped at our first spot, had the last of the falling tide for a good 1.5 hours and fishing was excellent!  Lots of snappers for dinner, a few nice big black drum, a nice slot red, one small snook and jumped another one off, and some big jacks!  Had a large bullshark eat a couple other fish, possibly nice reds or jacks.  Shrimp with jigs did the trick, throwing them up current and letting them sink along the edges of the banks and trees.  As the tide died at our spot everglades fishing islamorada we ran back towards home and hit a mud real quick.  A few trout and ladyfish in there, and one pompano too!  We stopped in one more area to try and get a few more snappers and the rain started to get us, and continued all the way home.  Totally worth it for these guys though, they always have a great time fishing at Bud n' Mary's!  Also nice to see a few of our winter time species starting to show up such as the pompano and black drum.

9/22/11 Good fishing report from Capt. Mike Bassett

Capt. Mike Bassett reported catching a few redfish as well as a small tarpon, some trout and big jacks too.  He also reported they lost a large snook in the mangroves and a goliath grouper got them wrapped up in the bottom too, but that's fishing!

6/17/11 Florida Keys backcountry fishing in June!

Well today was a warm one down here for our florida keys fishing charters!  Capt. Rick Stanczyk had a full day back in the everglades.  We started off hitting a few spots to try and catch some ladyfish for bait, plus of course trout, snapper, etc...  They were a little tough to find, after our 3rd or 4th spot though we bagged enough of them, plus picked away at some trout and keeper snappers.  We put the big rods out in hopes of tarpon, though no luck with them but did catch some nice lemon sharks!  We fished around flamingo area and then moved out off the cape to a good area for some florida tarpon fishing!  Capt. Skip Nielsen was flyfishing and said he had caught a couple on fly, so we anchored up and put baits out.  Saw some fish rolling but as soon as the tide started pouring in good, the water got real nasty and weedy and the fish quit showing.  We did catch another nice shark, and hooked a couple others we pulled off.  But we did catch this nice snook to make the end of our day!
