10-19-12 Islamorada Offshore Fishing Report during October
One thing some people don't realize when we say deep sea fishing, offshore fishing, or reef fishing is that it all refers to fishing the atlantic side off the Florida Keys. Every type of fishing gives you different options to target different species too. The time of the year also plays a major role in where we will fish too. While Islamorada Fishing in October we fish both offshore and on the reef. We will really focus on reef fishing (the reef is 4 - 5 miles offshore of the Keys where it drops from about 50 - 90 feet on average) as we approach the winter months thought. Yesterday the Reel McCoy had a great day on sailfish (reef fishing) , releasing 4, which is the most we've seen the last few weeks in a single day. Capt. Richard Stanczyk ran the Bn'M yesterday and caught 2 broadbill swordfish. The first one was a legal fish but they decided to release it to grow up some more (angler Vic said it would be good mojo for the rest of the day). Well whether or not it was the good mojo, within another hour they were hooked up again. Mike (who is the mate on the Redfish) was the angler and rode along to get some more sword experience. Since he had never caught a swordfish they decided to let him get in the chair. He had no idea for what he was in for. They hooked a mean, hard fighting sword. It took nearly 3 hours to catch, but Mike caught the 280 lb swordfish and said it was the best catch of his life. The Fall bite on the swords should continue so you might want to consider your Islamorada Swordfishing Trip Soon. Also call and book your sailfishing charters for this winter, as we are already catching some now!
