Islamorada Offshore Fishing Report! May 2, 2012
It seemed like it would never come, but May is here now and we can finally keep some grouper! Unfortunately it's been very windy the last couple of days and only a few boats have made it out, but there was some nice black groupers on the dock today! The BNM called it a short day with the rough seas, but it didn't stop long time friends George and Wes from catching a handful of tasty yellowtail snapper and then a nice black 16 lb black grouper! The Catch 22 also had a good catch of yellowtail snapper and a couple keep black groupers. The Reel McCoy searched for dolphin (mahi) this morning and caught a handful of schoolies (3-5 lbs), but they should be getting better and better as the days go by. The Gon Fishin V had the biggest grouper on the dock today, a chunky 22 lber. The Kalex had a nice catch of yellowtail snapper, a keeper black grouper, a Big 17 lb Mutton Snapper, and then found 3 sailfish to release too. The big push of sailfish we saw last week has dimished, but there's still a couple around if you put your time in. We were also catching some big amberjacks when we were going to the humps last week before the wind kicked up, here's a 52 lber 9 year old Nathan caught last week! Great Job Kid! It looks like the weather is finally going to calm down this weekend, so come on down here for your Florida Keys Offshore Fishing Charter!
