5-31-12 Deep Sea Fishing Report the past few days

May came and went quickly. We had more good weather than bad, but today was somewhat on the rainy side. It still didn't stop most the boats from fishing. The dolphin (mahi) fishing was better today than has it been, most the boats found a big school or two of fish and made their day like that. Some boats had as many as 30 fish. Unfortunately a few boats didn't find them or the ones they did didn't want to bite. Most of the fish were schoolies (3-6 lbs), but I did see a few gaffers hanging up pushing 15 lbs. The reef fishing has been pretty productive too. There's been quite a few yellowtail snapper, a handful of mutton snapper (pic of 10 lber aboard the Cloud Nine), and some king mackerel. The mangrove snapper are just starting to move out towards the reef to spawn too, so we should be seeing lots more of them in June. A few days ago there was a couple bigger dolphin brought in (35 lber from the BNM), but just not the numbers of fish. The "deep dropping" for bottom fish in 400 to 700' of water has been good lately too. Both the BNM and Gon Fishin V had big yellowedge groupers yesterday close to 30 lbs, snowy grouper to 12 lbs, and blue line tilefish close to 10 lbs. There's been some "football" blackfin tunas around on the humps as well (2 - 6 lbs). There's also been a couple wahoo in the mix, including this 20 lber the Predator caught two days ago.
