7-19-12 Islamorada Offshore Fishing Report
The boats have been hard at it the last few days offshore fishing in Islamorada. The dolphin (mahi) fishing has been steady and the boats have been doing well the last few days. Most boats are averaging 15 to 30 legal size fish per trip, as well as lots of "shakers" (small under size dolphin we shake off back in the water). There's been mixed sizes of fish, including quite a few decent size ones in the 5 to 12 lb range as well as a few slammers up to 25 lbs. The "football" (2 - 5 lb) blackfin tunas have been around the humps as well, with a few of the boats catching a handful for dinner in between the search for dolphin. A few boats have been doing a little deep water bottom fishing catching a few tilefish, grouper, and a couple of barrelfish too. The daytime broadbill swordfish bite has still been producing some shots as well, including this 100 lber. There's been a good bite of mangrove and yellowtail snapper on the reef too.
