A couple good Deep Sea Fishing Stories to end July
The dolphin (mahi) bite had been difficult the past week here while offshore fishing in Islamorada. However, in the afternoon on the the 31st things finally picked up. Sometimes while fishing patience makes all the difference in the world, but it can be tough to decide when to change the game plan if something just isn't working. The mahi bite was slow all morning for most the boats, but after lunch the Relentless, Catch 22, and Pretty work all caught plenty of mahi, including some nice fish. The Relentless caught the biggest BULL of the season, a whopping 54 lber! Congrats! The boats also had some blackfin tuna, mostly "footballs" but there was a handful of medium sized ones in the 10 lb range too. Back on the reef the yellowtail and mangrove snapper bite was decent while the current was moving, but once it slowed down it got difficult. The vermillion snapper have also showed up since we are nearing the full moon. The Strictly Business, BnM, and Gon Fishin V have all got in on the action the last couple of days. There's also been some spinner sharks around on the wrecks just outside the reef, which are extremely exciting as they jump and twist in the air when hooked. The Catch 22 and Bn'M also each released a broadbill on their last day time swordfishing charters too.
