8-23-12 Islamorada Florida Keys Fishing Report
The fishing has been pretty consistent the last few days both for offshore fishing and backcountry fishing. In the backcountry Capt. Vinnie Biondoletti put Rick and Diane Kurtz both on a tarpon as well as plenty of trout and a handful of mangrove snapper for dinner. Offshore the Relentless had a great catch of dolphin today, with 40 fish up to 10 lbs. The couple of days prior the dolphin (mahi) fishing was fair, there was lots of schools of undersize fish in between the schools of keepers. The Daytime Swordfishing Charters have been producing some excitement too. Capt. Nick Stanczyk on the Bn'M caught 4 out of 4 broadbill swordfish one day, including a big 352 lber for Ben Powell. The next day the Bn'M went 2 for 3 on the swords, catching Joe from Maryland his first ever legal sized swordfish, which he'd been after the last couple of years. The Sugaree stayed on the reef yesterday for a 1/2 day fishing trip and they caught some really nice mangrove (Gray) snapper up to 3 lbs as well as some yellowtails and a mutton snapper. Perfect for a kids fishing trip.
