9-22-12 Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing Report in September

We've had a few rain storms around the last couple of days but it didn't stop the Islamorada Offshore Fishing Boats from getting out. The Sugaree stayed on the reef one day and put together a great catch of bottom fish including 40 yellowtail snapper, a mutton snapper, a nice gag grouper, as well as releasing lots of under size grouper. The dolphin (mahi) bite slowed down a little the last couple of days, but the Catch 22 still had 15 fish yesterday up to 10 lbs, as well as a few skipjack tuna and bonito. The Relentless went offshore early and caught a few dolphin but then decided to come back to the reef for some more action and caught 30 yellowtail snapper. We swordfished 2 days in a row on the Bn'M and the first day we put Vito on a fat 240 lb Broadbill Swordfish. We also stopped on the way home and caught a decent snowy grouper in 600' of water. The next day it was Nate's turn in the chair for a sword and we got his fish on the leader but then the fish decided to head back towards the bottom and unfortunately we pulled the hook. Oh Well, that's how fishing goes. Still was a great couple of days of Daytime Swordfishing with a beautiful fish to show for it.
