9-25-12 Offshore Fishing Islamorada in September
It's been a mixed bag of fish the past few days here while September Fishing in Islamorada. Last Sunday was the end of the short red snapper season both the Gon Fishin V and the Strictly Business got in on the action. They each caught their limit for the day as well as some vermillion snapper. The Gon Fishin Also had an 18 lb mutton snapper and the Strictly Business had a handful of nice king mackerel up to 20 lbs. Further offshore the BNM did some deep dropping and caught a nice 20 lb snowy grouper as well as a few tilefish. Back on the reef they caught a handful of snapper and a keeper red grouper. The Relentless took a half day fishing trip and caught a bunch of tasty yellowtail snapper, which provides steady action as well as good eats. Today the Gon Fishin V caught a mixed bag of tuna, including both blackfin and skipjack, a lone mahi, and a few tiles. A couple of the blackfins were nice size, 15 - 18 lbs. The BNM went on a swordfishing charter , but unfortunately the weather was unstable way out and the fish didn't bite. They lost one fish after about 5 minutes and that was all the action on the sword drop. There been a few reports of mahi latey but they have definitely been on the difficult side.
