1-16-13 Deep Sea Fishing in Islamorada
Today the wind finally let up a little bit, after blowing 15 - 20 knots the past few days, and the boats took advantage of it while Islamorada Fishing. Most the boats stayed on the Reef and there was quite a bit of Action. The sailfish bite turned back on somewhat, after being pretty quite yesterday, and the Pretty Work caught and Released 5 sails. The Kalex and Relentless each released 3 sailfish and had nice cobias up to 55 lbs! The Fearless did both some kite fishing as well as some bottom fishing and caught a nice blackfin tuna, a limit of king mackerel, and a handful of yellowtail snapper. The Catch 22 went out on a daytime swordfish charter and had a couple bites, hooking one for a short period of time before the fish threw the hook. That's the name of the game when swordfishing, but hopefully the bite picks up on the sword ledge soon. Yesterday the Sailfish bite was slow, but the Gon Fishin V fished a 1/2 day in the morning and released a sailfish and caught a nice blackfin tuna for dinner. The Relentless released the only other sailfish. The Kalex had a nice catch of yellowtail snapper and released some nice grouper (grouper season is closed till May 1st). The day before the florida Keys Sailfishing was more active and the Catch 22 released 5 sailfish, the Reel McCoy released 4 Sailfish, The Relentless released 2 sailfish, and the Fearless released 1. The weather looks great for offshore fishing in January in Islamorada the next week so get on down here for a fishing trip!
