1-2-13 January Fishing in Islamorada
It's 2013 here now for our Islamorada Fishing Trips and the Deep Sea Fishing Charters started out the new year with plenty of fish. Yesterday only a couple boats fished, but the Reel McCoy had a banner day and manage to catch and release 11 Sailfish! It's one of the best days of this sailfishing in Islamorada season over the past two months. Today almost all the boats focused on reef fishing the Florida Keys and there was a mixed bag of fish. Sailfishing was good today Fishing in Early January and the Catch 22 led the pack with 8 sailfish releases. The Kalex started the day off by catch dinner, which was a nice bucket full of yellowtail snapper, and then managed to catch and release 4 sailfish. The Relentless found a nice school of cobia to start the day and managed to catch 3 keepers, including 1 nice big 45 lber. After that they caught and released 3 sailfish and then went and anchored down for a couple hours and caught a bucket full of yellowtail snapper for dinner. The Reel McCoy focused on sailfishing and released 3 sails. The Bn'M caught a nice 35 lb cobia to start the day and then chased sails around for a few hours. We had 3 bites and released 2 fish. After that we went and caught and released a big 250 lb bull shark and caught a king mackerel. We finished up the day with a couple barracuda releases too. The Strictly business went out on an afternoon 1/2 day fishing trip and went 1 for 3 on sailfish. We also have a new back country guide, Daniel Biondoletti, (son of legendary Vinnie Biondoletti) working part time at the marina with a 20' bay boat, which can take up to 3 to 4 people comfortable. He fishes both in the backcountry and the patch reefs on the ocean side. He caught a few nice fish before the New Year including a permit, red grouper, sea trout, and black drum.
