1-31-13 Islamorada Offshore Fishing Report

The January fishing in Islamorada came and went quickly, but there was plenty of fish stories to be had at Bud N' Mary's Marina. The wind has been blowing the past few days, but there's still been a handful of boats getting out each for some Islamorada Fishing each day! Today the Relentless fished a full day and Mike, who is usually the mat,e ran the boat today as capt. and had a great day on quality fish! They caught and released 2 sailfish, had a decent mahi, and then caught a fat 45 lb wahoo on 15 lb spinning tackle! The Kalex had the same grouper of people the last two days and they have been having great sucess while florida Key bottom fishing. Yesterday they had a bunch of big mangrove (gray) snapper up to 5 lbs, as well as some yellowtails. Today they had a cooler full of nice yellowtail snapper in the 1 - 3 lb range as well as releasing a couple big grouper up to 20 lbs (shallow water grouper must be released from January through April). The day before the Catch 22 had a great catch of big yellowtail snapper up to 4 lbs as well, and released a beatiful sailfish. Sailfishing in Islamorada should still provide a fair shot the next couple months so if that interests you give us a shout! The next few months will still be mostly reef fishing, but once we hit late spring the islamorada offshore fishing charters will be heading out much further!
