2-28-13 Islamorada Fishing in the end of February

Today was the last day of February fishing in Islamorada 2013. The offshore fishing charters went out today and had North Winds from 10 to 15 knots with cool air temperatures. The fishing was fair overall. The sailfish were tough but the Relentless did manage to release 1 and also had a nice blackfin tuna. The Reel McCoy reported losing a couple sailfish but catching plenty of yellowtail snapper for dinner. The Bn'M had a mixed bag including 1 legal cobia, a handful of yellowtail snapper, a medium sized mutton snapper, a couple king mackerel, and released 6 grouper and some small cobia. The Gold Digger had a pair of nice cobias in the 35 - 40 lb range as well as 30 yellowtail snapper. Yesterday the fishing was better and there was some sailfish action to be had. The Relentless released 4 sailfish and had a limit of cobia, the Catch 22 released 3 sailfish, the Reel McCoy released 1 sailfish, had a legal cobia and a few small cobia releases. The Manowar had a mixed bag including some nice king mackerel to 30 lbs, 2 legal cobia, and some nice yellowtail snapper. The Pretty Work also had a bucket full of yellowtail snapper and a nice cobia as well. The Strictly Business also released a double header sailfish and had a pair of cobia including a fat 50 lber! In the Backcountry Capt. Daniel Bindoletti reported good action inlcuding sea trout, bluefish, ladyfish, jacks, snapper, and an 80 lb blacktip shark release to finish up his day.
