3/4/13 March Backcountry Fishing Report Islamorada
Well we've had a late cold front here for our early march islamorada fishing though boats have still been able to get out. Capt. Dave Sisung fished the other day with Rich and Cheryl and had a blast. They caught several big drag pullin' jack crevalles as well as some trout. Today Capt. Rick Stanczyk snuck out to the patches as it was the coldest it's been all winter in the backcountry. We were able to catch several nice size mangrove snappers, plus half a dozen small muttons, a handful of small grouper, and a couple decent size cero marckerel. The florida keys fishing in march in the backcountry will get a little better as the week progresses, however Wednesday night it's suppose to cool off again a tad, so the best action will likely be in the afternoons. We keep saying it but hopefully this WILL be the last cold front and tarpon action should likely pick up then. The good news is many feel with the late cool weather it is holding the tarpon off a bit, which will mean when they do show up it ought to be very good fishing, and likely the fish will be less 'beat up' by season and hopefully continue to be a strong and active bite all through the spring/summer. Remember almost all the time there is an option B when fishing in islamorada so you just have to make the best of it, though as we get close to mid march the temperatures should really stabilize and the fishing should as well! Stay tuned for our next march islamorada fishing report!
