4/15/13 Tarpon Fishing Islamorada in April is going off!

The april islamorada tarpon fishing is about as good as it gets right now.  Big fish are being caught both day and night in the backcountry and locally around Islamorada.  Fresh mullet has been the goto bait during the day, some good action on crabs on the later evening action too.  Capt. Skip Nielsen fished Chip and John Clark Saturday, and Sunday Randy Soth and Peter Aliano.  They released 12 tarpon in 2 days of fishing all using Fox sportfishing tackle.  Today he caught 3 fish on fly fun fishing with his wife Cyd.  Capt. Rick Stanczyk had some great fishing with Carlo Meo and his brother Felice.  They caught 9 tarpon in 2 1/2 days, 6 out of 13 on the last day.  They also caught some big sharks and 5 'mud marlin' on their trip.  Today Capt. Rick caught 3/3 big tarpon early in the morning, they had enough of that so went in the gulf.  Got some nice triple tail for dinner, a couple keeper cobias one we had to reel very hard to get out of a bullsharks mouth!  Islamorada cobia fishing in the gulf can be very good this time of year if you have the right conditions (calm).  Lost a permit to a bull shark, and caught a 250 lb goliath grouper.  Capt. Ben Ekblom had 4 tarpon a couple evenings ago, Capt. Bill Bassett caught 1 out of 3 today, and Capt. Mike Bassett caught a big tarpon as well today.  Capt. Clyde Upchurch caught 2 tarpon today too.  Capt. John Johansen has had multiple tarpon days as well the last week.  The islamorada fishing is very good right now, plenty of evening trips for the big tarpon available.  Now's the time to get out there on the water!
