4/19/13 April tarpon fishing in Islamorada continues to stay strong.
The tarpon fishing has been stellar this april tarpon fishing islamorada. The fish in the backcountry while having slowed down a bit from what it was a week ago are still there. Today we caught 3 out of 4 big tarpon, had our first 3 bites all in the first hour of fishing. Worked hard to try to get more but mostly just sharks and big catfish after that. We went to bend the rod with some trout, ladyfish, etc... for a bit and then tried again on the afternoon falling tide. The last bait we put out, a two day old dayfish, did the trick and we got our 3rd tarpon of the day a big 100 lber that put on a good show and we landed before heading back in. Islamorada charter fishing in April is very busy and the fishing has been good which we all love. Last night we caught 2 tarpon out of 2 bites we had, one early the first bait, a live mullet near ch 2 bridge. Then the last one of the night a dead mullet on the bottom back home within a couple miles of Bud n' Mary's. Lots of fish starting to fill the local channels and bays so the local fishing should get better and better. Capt. Nick Stanczyk took girlfriend Sara out bridge tarpon fishing last night and they caught a nicd 100 lb fish. Also Capt. Vic Gaspeny had 3 fish, and Capt. Mike Bassett landed 1 out of 4. Capt. Mark Hlis also hooked up a nice poon near sunset while we were fighting ours. There has also been a mix of trout, ladyfish, and snappers in the bay. Not much word on anything else with the wind the best bet has been tarpon/shark fishing the channels for action with big fish.
Capt. Rick Stanczyk
