4/23/13 Backcountry tarpon fishing in Islamorada this April

We've had the Martin Founds group fishing the last 3 days here at Bud n Marys.  They come every year for a big group trip and book most the marina accommodations and several guides including Rick Stanczyk, Jim Willcox, Bill Bassett, Skip Nielsen, Jeff Beeler, and others.  They've been doing a variety of things but tarpon fishing in Islamorada is high on the list.  The boys have been catching fish every day with every guide.  The last 3 days with Capt. Rick Stanczyk, Jim and Bill have landed 8 tarpon out of 11 or so shots.  Capt. Skip Nielsen fished a power 12 hour day yesterday and landed 7 tarpon throughout the day and evening.  Capt. Jim Willcox, Capt. Bill Bassett, and Capt. Jeff Beeler have also been catching tarpon, Jim and Bill took the boys back deep in the everglades today and caught a handful of redfish and snook.  Capt. Bill and Rick also landed lots of nice tripetail the first day, and Capt. Jim had a big goliath grouper.  Last night with Jeremy Fellgraff and father John, Capt. Rick landed 6 tarpon in 3 hours too.  The mullet have been plentiful as of late and the tarpon are feeding heavily on them.  If your thinking of doing some florida keys tarpon fishing then give us a call!
