tarpon fishing in the backcountry is hot. 5 releases

P7160019.JPGStanley McJunkin,his daughter Whitney and family friend Dave were out with me yesterday. Whitney was the star angler, catching and releasing 3 tarpon. Two of the tarpon were over 100lbs. Dave released his first ever as well. During the day many seatrout, mangrove snapper and some large goliath grouper were caught also. had to dodge a couple squalls but the fishing is very good now.

Nice Tarpon - Capt. Dave Sisung - 7/8/08

Capt. Dave Sisung released a nice 120 lb tarpon which ate a crab, and also caught a 10' sawfish estimated about 200 lbs.  His angler was Ken Colghan from New York, here on vacation!  Exciting!

big tarpon on fly

Dr. Glenn Scott fought and released a tarpon estimated to be well over 140lbs on July 4. He took the tarpon on a purple fly tied by capt. skip nielsen. the battle lasted over 2 hours. Glenn also released 2 other tarpon on the same day out in the backcountry of Everglades National Park.

Daytime Swordfish for The Predator - 7/2/08

Capt. Augie Wampler and mates Eric Ehlers and Joey Hendrix had some luck daytime swordfishing with Art, Kenny, Tom, and Alissa.  They caught a 110 lb swordie.  The fish ate a squid in 1700 ft of water, 45 miles offshore!  The crew got 4 other bites, and caught some nice dolphin on the way in!

Redfish - 7/2/08 - More big dolphin!

Courtney Capehart caught a 56 lb Bull Dolphin while fishing on The Redfish.  Shown with Courtney is Aaron Pilnick and mate Haines Salmones.  The fish ate a trolled ballyhoo on a pink & white softhead and was caught 14 miles off Alligator Light.  The party also caught 40 other dolphin.  The second photo shows Haines with the fish at the dock!  Great job!
