10-16-12 Offshore Fishing Report in Islamorada during October

The wind finally stopped blowing the last two days here and a handful of boats made it out each day Deep Sea Fishing in Islamorada. The Daytime Swordfishing Trips have been great. The BNM managed to catch 4 swordfish yesterday, releasing 2 and keeping 2. The fish weren't big, but in the 30 - 75 lb class. Today aboard the BNM we had Connie and Kathy from the International Woman's Fishing Association both catch there first ever broadbill swordfish. We kept one for dinner and released the other one to fight another day. All of these fish are caught on Rod and Reel, NON - ELECTRIC, from deep water, 1500- 1800' down! Yesterday the Kalex had a family fishing trip with 4 kids and their father's. The kids caught a bunch of snapper on the reef early in the morning, and then headed out past the reef and found a handful of dolphin (mahi). To finish the day off they tried for a sailfish and right before it was time to head home they caught and released a beautiful sailfish! Great work kids! The mahi bite will most likely continue to slow down as we continue through out Fall, but there should be a few around. The sailfish bite should pick up each week as we near winter as well. The daytime swordfish charters should be very productive the rest of Fall too.
