10-30-12 Islamorada October Reef fishing report
As Octobers comes to an end we look forward to fishing in November in Islamorada. We've had our first noticeable cold front the past couple of days and the temperature has been great. A handful of boats fished the reef the past couple of days. Yesterday the Catch 22 found some sailfish and managed to catch and release 3. They also had a few mahi including a nice 18 lb bull. Today the Fearless did a 1/2 day fishing trip, which is easier to do when reef fishing since we go usually 5 miles or less from shore, and had lots of action including an assortment of jacks, snapper, and bonito. On the Bn'M the past two days we've had the Shane brothers. Robert decided he'd celebrate his 85th birthday with us on some Islamorada Fishing Trips. Yesterday we limited out on yellowtail snapper on the reef and let go an assortment of grouper, mackerel, jack, and other snapper. Today we limited out on mangrove (gray) snapper, caught a handful of yellowtail snapper, and a big yellowjack. We released a few amberjack and multiple other reef dwellers too. Bottom fishing usually provides lots of action as well as some great eating fish, great for everyone!
