12-18-12 Islamorada Reef Fishing Report
The weather has been beautiful here the last few days for Islamorada Fishing! The Reef has been pretty active and the winds have been very light the last couple of days, making for some calm enjoyable florida keys fishing trips. It was just a matter of time until the schools of cobias began following the big stingrays inside the reef. You need patience however to search and look for the schools of cobia. The boats will ride around in the shallow water and you may feel like you are not "fishing" , since there are no rods out, but you are indeed fishing! More like hunting. If you are fortunate enough to find a big sting ray you can load up on cobias, and that's just what a few boats did the past couple of days! The Cloud Nine fished the past two days and limited out on cobia each Islamorada fishing charter. The biggest fish they brought home was a fat 56 lber! They also released one sailfish. Yesterday the Relentless also found some cobias, they released a lot of undersize fish but had one really big cobia, weighing in at 58 lbs! They also released 3 sailfish. Today the Bn'M released 2 sailfish on a morning 1/2 day fishing trip, the Reel McCoy had a great day full day on sailfish, releasing 7, The Relentless released 3 sails and caught 3 cobias too. The Kalex found a big school of cobia this morning and caught a limit of keepers as well. The Catch 22 went out a little bit deeper this morning and caught a couple mahi, a couple tuna, a few king mackerel and a couple snapper. Here a picture from the Fearless with of a sail caught and released with Chris and Tom Brady.

Went out on the BnM, 18 DEC 2012, with Capt Nick. The sailfish weren't cooperating at first, but Capt Nick and his crew never gave up on them. They were aware that the trip was for my brother Paul's 40th birthday and they helped make it one he will never forget. Paul was able to land two sailfish and we both learned a lot about the process. Thanks again to the capt and crew. We both had a blast and when we return in the summer for swordfish, we will be booking with Bud n Mary's Marina and hopefully on Capt Nick's boat.
