8-17-12 Islamorada Fishing Report

The weather continues to be great here Fishing in the Florida Keys! A handful of boats have been getting out for some Offshore Fishing as well as some for Backcountry and Tarpon Fishing! On the Deep Sea side the mahi bite has been pretty good. There's been lots of fish, nothing real big, but plenty of schoolies and some gaffers up to about 15 lbs. Also Lots of undersize fish which are fun, but must be released. Even further out the Daytime Swordfish Charters have been producing some fish too. The BNM had Emily from Texas with her Husbands family (who are locals), catch a nice 150 lb Broadbill Swordfish! Some reason the girls always have the luck! Today 12 year old Konrad also caught a daytime swordfish a little over 70 lbs. Two days ago the Pretty work had 40 mahi, mostly caught with Kids fishing! Some by the parents too though. Capt. Vinnie Biondoletti went out this morning in search of tarpon with live bait, and managed to catch 2 tarpon. He also said they had a couple of other strikes. Nice to know that tarpon fishing still gives you a really good shot at a few fish. The Miss Islamorada has been doing very well on the mangrove (gray) snapper lately, and young Marcus caught this big yellowjack the other day.
