8-13-12 Islamorada Deep Sea Fishing Report
The sun's been out and the seas have been calm the last couple of days. The winds have been 10 knots or less, just making a light chop. Not a ton of boats have been fishing but still a few each day. Yesterday the BnM had Jeff here all the way from Tasmania in search of his first broadbill swordfish. We managed to catch 2, keeping a 90 lber and releasing a legal 50 lber. The Catch 22 also released a swordfish and caught 15 mahi. On the way out they had an unusual surprise catching a pair of cobias, 35 and 39 lbs. The Strictly Business caught a 25 lb bull too. The Kalex fished for mahi and by the end of the day had a nice catch of 30 fish. The Finnster stayed on the reef for a 1/2 day fishing trip and caught a bucket full of yellowtail and nice size mangrove snapper. Today Jeff released another swordfish aboard the BnM, and also caught 20 mahi up to 20 lbs. The Gon Fishin V kept 20 mahi today, mostly schoolies, and released a lot of undersize mahis too, making for lots of action. Should have some good Broadbill Swordfishing this fall as well.
