Matt Hunwick from England and friend Charles of Sydney,Australia were in town for a business conference and wanted to catch some big fish. So we had a calm day and headed to the hot spots in the Gulf of Mexico. Cobias, goliath grouper to 350lbs,lemon sharks, blacktip and spinner sharks and a bonus of a big red drum the first day. Day 2 we used First Growth, 28' twin outboard with cabin and facilities, to go offshore. Lots of frigate birds and terns diving after we caught cigar minnows and ballyhoo for bait. No sails to be seen but we caught bonitos and a nice blackfin tuna. Anchored down for awhile in 140' and caught 5 king mackerel to 30lbs and mutton snapper 10lbs and black grouper to 15lbs. Pulled anchor at 2:30 and reloaded the livewell with fresh caught live ballyhoo and right away hooked a double header of sailfish. One jumped off but Matt caught his. A nice ending to an action packed day.
The fishing for everyone has been good with snook and reds and plenty of seatrout in the back and offshore the sails, kings and reef fish have been cooperating. Its a great time to fish all through December. Light fishing pressure and no crowds til the Christmas holday so come on down and catch some fish.
