7-1-12 Islamorada Offshore Fishing Report!

July started out with a bang for a couple of boats today. The dolphin (mahi) fishing was very good a few days ago, but was fair the last two days. The Reel McCoy had the best catch of dolphin on the dock today. Capt. George put a young junior angler on a win in the Islamorada Fishing Club Junior Dolphin tournament! They had a 40 lb bull and two other big fish, combining for a total of 78 lbs for the win. Most of the other boats today had anywhere from half a dozen to 20 fish, from schoolies to gaffers (3-15 lbs) and there were a few more slammers (20 lbs plus) hanging up too. There were also a handful of "football" blackfin tuna caught on the humps. The BnM had 16 year old Ryan catch his first broadbill swordfish and the biggest fish of his life today, which was a chunky 70 lber, perfect to take home for dinner! Capt. Chris on the Finnster ended June on a great note too! He had Harry, the boat owner, and his son out for some daytime swordfishing yesterday. They released a juvenile sword their first drop and then the next drop hooked a really nice fish. It was a stubborn swordfish which Harry fought for 3 hours before putting the 195 lb broadbill on the deck. It was well deserved! Great Job Guys! The weather looks great this week so get on down here for some Florida Keys Fishing! The Relentless released a sailfish today and a few days back the Pretty work released a blue marlin in the 300-350 lb range! Which is also an awesome bonus! You just never know...
