Big tarpons!

Capt. Ricky Stanczyk caught 2 nice tarpon on the evening of 5/8/08.  Drifting down by channel 2 bridge with live crabs did the trick.  Valerie Greco caught 1 est. 125lbs and then Ricky caught another est. 100lbs.  Good bite between 6:30 and 8:30 pm with the end of the outgoing tide!

tarpon have saturated Islamorada

the bite is on....Fred Clancy Sr. and Fred Clancy Jr. enjoyed releasing 3 tarpon last night. They are visiting from Cape Cod.

All the guides had action. The tides are perfect for the coming week so make arrangements to get out and catch a tarpon on an afternoon and evening trip.

an afternoon fishing trip

Arnold Gold and his wife Bobbie from LA are in town this week. Yesterday evening we went out into the backcountry for some action. action we had. First we found a fish mud. Using bucktail jigs tipped with shrimp Bobbie caught and released a nice bonefish. moving on to another larger "mud"  Arnold really got into the action. 5 nice seatrout, many jacks and ladyfish. Using the ladyfish for bait Arnold released 12 blacktip sharks and a six foot bull shark. fun stuff. As the sun was setting we motored back towards Islamorada and drifted a channel baited up for tarpon. Just as darkness settled in Arnold hooked up a monster tarpon. 40 minutes later the fish(estemated at 140 to 150lbs) was alongside the boat. good going Arnold.

Spring Dolphin - Cloud Nine Capt. Greg Eklund 5/2/08

The spring winds from the east are encouraging the dolphin to gather in 300-500 feet of water.  The fish are mixed in size from 5-15 lbs with a few slammer size fish up to 40 lbs.  The weather forecast for the next few days continues fresh breezes from the east.  I expect the quality dolphin fising to continue.  We also fished the reef this week.  Nice yellowtail snappers up to 5 lbs, a few 2-4 lb mangrove snapper, and some black groupers & king mackeral were caught.  May is a great month here in the keys for both offshore and reef fishing.  Please call Bud N' Mary's for more reports!
