Swordfish, Mahi, Snapper, and More!

We had Glen out on the BNM on the 23rd and had a killer day. We caught about 25 mahi, with two nice bulls to 26 lbs, and then finished up the day with a daytime swordfish! Not a monster, but a chunky 75 lber. We reef fished yesterday and picked away at the snappers all day till we had our limit, which included 30 yellowtail snapper and 10 mangrove snapper. We also caught a big remora and big Jimmy stuck it to little Jimmy's stomach. It came off about 20 minutes later. LOL.  Offshore today we had 20 dolphin to 10 lbs and a small wahoo.

Swordfish, Mahi, and More! Offshore Florida Keys Fishing Report!

This is a report from the last week of offshore fishing here at Bud N Mary's Marina in Islamorada, FL Keys. The dolphin (Mahi-Mahi) fishing was very good early in the week, we had a few nice up to 25 lbs each trip, as well as some schoolies and gaffers (3 to 12 lbers). We swordfished 3 trips and caught fish on two of them. We called it quits early today because of all the lightning and thunderstorms around. Bill Classon from Sportfishing Australia caught his first daytime sword at 178 lbs. We also had Benno from Denmark catch his biggest fish ever and first sword of his life. It was a 140 lb swordfish. He also caught a 13# tripletail! Paula had her family out with her for some Florida Keys fishing and both her kids and father caught dolphin to 20 lbs and a summer time cobia that weighed 27 lbs! Not a bad family fishing trip.

The Swords are back! 3 Broadbills for the BNM 7-13-11

We hadn't been out on a daytime swordfishing charter since early July, where we caught and released 1 small fish on a three trip stretch, but yesterday the bite was on! We brought Capt. Vinnie Biondoletti, who's been a backcountry guide at Bud N Mary's for 25 years, to try to get him his first sword. Luck was finally on his side. On the first drop we hooked up, and after a grueling 2 hour battle, Capt. Vinnie brought his first ever sword to the boat. It was a chunky 280 lber! He said it fought a little harder than sea trout.. hahaha!  A few hours later our friend Ron got in the chair and caught his biggest sword ever, a 110 lber! With the day almost over we made one more drop and managed to catch a 3rd swordfish. It was a 135 lber! We also had 15 schoolie size mahi from 3 to 6 lbs. It was a beautiful day for some Florida Keys Fishing

2 Nice Swords for the Australians!

We had "Sparra" and Tara from Cairns, Australia out on the BNM on June 29th and 30th. "Sparra" runs the famous Square Bear for the giant black marlin, and wanted his girlfriend/mate to catch a Broadbill Swordfish. The Swordfish Charter began early in the morning. We headed out around 30 miles and on the first drop hooked up within minutes. Unfortuntely the hook pulled and it was very quite the next few hours. We caught a handful of Mahi and then finally around 3 p.m. we had another swordfish bite. Tara got in the chair with the fish and went to work. After about 30 minutes I saw a big splash way back, and knew we had a decent fish on. We got the fish about 50 feet away and she made a spectactular jump, clear out of the water. I knew the fish was well over 200 lbs. After a 90 minutes battle we sank the gaffs into a fat 231 lb Swordfish! Great swordfish, especially for her first. We did the same thing again the next day. We missed our first swordfish bite, and then connected around 4 p.m. We had another beatiful sword on, and after an hour long battle, Tara had her second ever sword in the boat. A 166lber! "Sparra" said he'll get his next time, but I'm not sure Tara will share the chair in the future either... Get on down here for some Florida Keys Fishing!

Sibling Rivalry... A sword for the brother...

Two days ago aboard the BNM we had 10 year old Derek catch a 211 lb Daytime Swordfish. His 11 year old brother Konrad wasn't going to go home empty handed, so we ventured back out deep today. On our first drop we hooked up. After a 45 minute fight, Konrad caught his first Swordfish! A chunky 109 lber! Great Work by another extremely young angler! We are fishing in over 1500' of water with a conventional reel! On the way home we hit a couple schools of dolphin, keeping about 15 fish to 12 lbs. It was an exciting swordfish charter! I had Brent and his wife out yesterday for swordfish, but it was one of the slowest days we've ever had. We never had a sword bite. Just an off day I suppose. It's still always fishing in the end. Brent did catch and release this decent size snook on the way in too, which was his first ever.
